Coronavirus: 1000+ Dead in One Day

Today has been the deadliest day thus far of the Coronavirus pandemic, with over 1000 dead in Italy and the United States combined. Italy alone accounts for 919 of the new deaths recorded today, with other hard-hit countries like Spain still to report their daily numbers.

Italy’s 919 deaths today marks a single day record since the beginning of the pandemic, and Italy’s total death toll has surged past 9000 and is now nearly three times higher than China, with Spain’s death toll also nearly 150% of China. The situation is becoming increasingly serious in these countries as global cases are nearing 600,000 and outbreaks rapidly grow in scope.

The US has reported 80 deaths on March 27th at the time of writing, and with the US case total now the highest in the world and the death totals rising as well, the outbreak appears to be very serious in the United States while the situation in Italy continues to worsen. Spain and Germany account for over 100,000 cases combined as well, with France’s case load nearing 30,000.

With the European case total surpassing 300,000, and the North American total approaching 100,000, it is likely the crisis will continue to progress throughout the world and major economies will be slowed as companies shift to work from home duties to slow the spread of the virus.
