With the Chinese daily coronavirus rates slowing, some businesses had begun to reopen, but others are now closing again after new small outbreaks of the epidemic. Initially cinemas were scheduled to open this coming weekend, but those scheduled openings have been called off.
In major cities like Shanghai and Chengdu, entertainment venues like karaoke bars, internet cafes, and bars/pubs have been ordered to remain closed. This comes as China begins to focus on a new phase of the outbreak – after its two month lockdown China is attempting to stop a second wave of the virus from sweeping through the country.
China reports over 700 “imported” cases that have come from other countries, and now international flights have stalled to under 2% of typical volumes. These measures along with the new local closures are aimed at preventing a second wave of the virus, and are combined with increased prevention measures in cities outside Wuhan and Hubei province.
Furthermore, some of Shanghai’s biggest tourist attractions like the Shanghai Tower are closed again as of this Monday after they were re-opened early last week. These continued closures and re-closures are significantly hampering the tourism market, which is struggling in Shanghai, the rest of China, and all over the world as the coronavirus pandemic spreads.
