Shocking Funeral Home Discoveries Put China’s Official Corona Numbers Into Question

China’s official coronavirus numbers are being called into question after researchers discovered a massive backlog at mortuaries and a huge amount of urns being delivered to mortuaries in Wuhan. The official numbers in Wuhan account for roughly 2500 deaths in the city due to the virus, yet urn shipments to mortuaries put that number into doubt.

Chinese investigative outlet Caixin reports that people were waiting in line for 5 hours or more to receive the remains of family members who died from coronavirus. One photo published by this outlet shows a truck with 2500 urns arriving at a mortuary, and the driver reported delivering the same amount the day before. Another photo with stacks of urns totaled to 3500, with a truck driver saying he was to deliver 500 a day for the rest of the week.

With seven mortuaries in Wuhan, if the others are following similar delivery schedules that could be as many as 40,000 urns delivered within the week. Reporters from western outlets have contacted the funeral homes but did not receieve answers when they inquired about the number of urns distributed.

At the outset of the coronavirus outbreak, many were skeptical of the Chinese government’s statistics, and with the death rate in Italy being over three times that of China’s official numbers, there are questions about the true number of deaths in the country and especially in the epicentre of Wuhan.
